This project involved the reconstruction of four mahogany panelled doors of unequal size into four doors of the same height and width. The fielded panels were constructed of mahogany ground timber, veneered and cross-banded with figured mahogany and held in a beautifully moulded frame. Each of the six panels per door required a reduction of up to 34mm across their width and adjustments also had to be made to the moulded frames.
Once completed the new frames and adjusted panels were joined together. The original polished surfaces were in poor condition and required thorough cleaning and in some cases removal. Once prepared, the surfaces were coloured and repolished with shellac.
